Special Olympics Isle of Man athletes spent 12 hours playing sport on Saturday 10 October to raise money for the island’s trip to the 2027 Special Olympics World Games in Chile, Energy FM reported.

Athletes, volunteers, coaches and families took part throughout the day. The programme took in bocce, golf, cycling, badminton, football, athletics and yoga, and the day closed with a disco.

The charity thanked everyone who joined in. It said the event had been a celebration of friendship, inclusion and teamwork.

According to Energy FM, the amount raised has not yet been finalised. The money will help pay for travel, accommodation and kit for the Manx delegation.

Special Olympics Isle of Man offers sporting opportunities to people with learning disabilities. The island has competed under its own flag as an independent nation since 1995.

Energy FM reported that between 14 and 16 athletes are expected to compete for the island in Santiago across six sports, supported by coaches and other staff.
