A Port St Mary school has been recognised at a UK-wide event for its work on children’s mental health, collecting a ‘Happiness Heroes’ award at myHappymind LIVE 2026 in Manchester, Isle of Man Today reported.

Scoill Phurt le Moirrey received the award at the city’s Treehouse Hotel earlier in October. The gathering also marked ten years of the myHappymind organisation and drew schools and partner groups from around the UK.

According to Isle of Man Today, the award reflects the way the school’s pupils have taken the myHappymind programme to heart and applied it, both in caring for themselves and in supporting the people around them.

The programme sets out to weave wellbeing into the school day, teaching children practical skills meant to strengthen their resilience, self-confidence and relationships.

Simon Murphy, executive headteacher of Scoill Phurt le Moirrey and Rushen Primary School, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our children and the way they’ve embraced the programme.”

He said the goal was to equip children to “know what to do, when they don’t know what to do”. He thanked the school communities, the island’s wider education community and partner organisations, including myHappymind, adding: “Working together to help children thrive is what really matters.”

A school spokesperson said the recognition belonged to children and staff alike, and reflected the school’s aim of helping pupils do well both academically and personally.
