South Liverpool hand FC Isle of Man first home defeat of the season

Joseph Clarke's long-range strike and a Neil Weaver finish earned the visitors a 2-0 win at The Bowl as the Ravens' run of three straight victories ended.

FC Isle of Man suffered their first home defeat of the season on Saturday evening (10 October), losing 2-0 to South Liverpool in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.

The Ravens had been chasing a fourth consecutive win in all competitions, but were left to regret a string of missed chances, Manx Radio Sport reported.

James Lowther fired straight at South Liverpool goalkeeper Dominic Garner in the sixth minute. On 30 minutes, Tomas Brown’s looping header was cleared off the line by defender Jack Bentley after a collision between Bentley and his goalkeeper.

The visitors went ahead on 33 minutes on the counter-attack from an FC Isle of Man corner, when Joseph Clarke cut in from the right and struck a fierce drive in off the crossbar. Clarke was named man of the match.

South Liverpool doubled their lead six minutes after the restart. A quickly taken free-kick reached James Flight, whose low cross was finished first time into the far corner by Neil Weaver.

The hosts dominated possession in the final half-hour, but Dean Pinnington curled a deflected effort wide and Garner denied Callum Sherry from close range late on.
