The Isle of Man Land Registry welcomed a delegation of Norwegian land administration specialists on Thursday 1 October for a day of talks and demonstrations, the Isle of Man Government has said.
The visitors included Per Ove Røkke, an authorised cadastral surveyor and senior engineer with the Norwegian Mapping Authority, and Lars Norum, a land consolidation judge with the Norwegian Courts Administration. They were accompanied by geospatial expert Dr Robin McLaren and Iain McDonald, the island’s former Information Commissioner. According to the Government, Dr McLaren and Mr McDonald played a key part in developing the island’s first computerised land registration system.
The two sides compared how their regimes handle the registration of property rights, parcel subdivision, rectification, proof of ownership and boundary disputes. The Norwegians outlined their national cadastral system and the separate role of their Land Consolidation Court, while registry staff showed how registration works on the island.
James Lowery, the registry’s Legal Officer, said: “Although the two registries operate on different scales, we face many similar challenges.”
The visit coincided with the launch of a refreshed online Land Registry Dashboard, which the Government said gives residents, businesses and property professionals access to live application data and house price statistics.
