DEFA adds extra training session as food hygiene ratings scheme nears

High demand has prompted a further session on 12 November at Tynwald Buildings in Douglas, ahead of inspections for online hygiene ratings beginning in January.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) has arranged an additional training session for food businesses preparing for the island’s new hygiene ratings scheme, according to 3FM.

The session will take place on Thursday 12 November from 14:00 at Tynwald Buildings in Douglas. DEFA said the extra date had been added because of high demand.

Under the scheme, inspectors will begin visiting cafés, pubs, takeaways and restaurants from January, and the resulting ratings will be published online.

The department has already run several training courses explaining how the system will work. According to 3FM, DEFA said the new session is intended for outlets with concerns about the scheme.

3FM said further details, including how to book a place, are available online.
