Katryna Baptist told Manx Radio that Kirrie Jenkins and Chris Thomas share similar views, ahead of Tuesday's House of Keys vote for chief minister.

Kirrie Jenkins and Chris Thomas, the two MHKs competing to become chief minister, are aligned in their views and could work together as a real partnership, according to the member who proposed Mrs Jenkins.

Katryna Baptist, MHK for Glenfaba and Peel, made the case to Manx Radio ahead of Tuesday’s contest. She nominated Mrs Jenkins, who represents Arbory, Castletown and Malew.

The other candidate, Mr Thomas, sits for Douglas Central and was proposed by Ramsey MHK Rob Cowell. Manx Radio reported Mr Cowell as saying he was confident he could “influence the change needed to deliver”.

The House of Keys, the elected chamber of Tynwald, is due to choose the next chief minister on 13 October. Members have tabled 18 questions for the candidates to answer before the vote, Manx Radio reported.

The Keys is due to sit from 10:00. Proceedings will be broadcast live on Manx Radio’s AM 1368 frequency and on DAB.
