The chairman of the Northern Young Farmers has said the social life of Young Farmers clubs can be vital in helping people in farming deal with loneliness.

Dylan Groom has belonged to the club for five years and also works as an agricultural mechanic. He made the comments in a report by Manx Radio.

According to Manx Radio, he believes membership helps people in the sector form friendships that last a lifetime and that they can turn to during hard times.

Mr Groom said this time of year can be a particularly challenging one for those working on farms. Manx Radio reported that some in the industry face long hours at present.

The Northern Young Farmers is one of the Young Farmers groups on the island.
