The Northern Lights were seen over the island on Saturday evening (10 October), with a colourful glow photographed above the coast at Peel, BBC News reported.
The image of the west coast town was sent in through the BBC’s Weather Watchers network. The display also reached north-west England, where pictures showed pink, purple and green light over places including Bolton, Southport, Tewitfield in Lancashire and West Kirby on the Wirral.
The phenomenon, also known as the aurora borealis, is the result of increased solar activity, the BBC said.
There may be further chances to see it. According to the BBC, the UK Met Office has said sightings could remain possible across the UK wherever skies stay clear, up until Tuesday.
