A yellow weather warning for coastal overtopping has been issued for the island today (Wednesday 14 October) and overnight into Thursday, as strong south-southwesterly winds approach gale force.

According to Isle of Man Today and Manx Radio, the Ronaldsway Met Office warning covers two periods: 12:00 to 15:00 today, and midnight to 03:00 on Thursday 15 October. 3FM reported the warning as running from 15:00 today until 03:00 tomorrow.

The danger is tied to the next two high tides, due at about 13:15 on Wednesday and 01:30 on Thursday, Isle of Man Today reported. It said there was a risk of some waves breaking over sea walls, which could leave water and small amounts of debris on promenades.

The promenades in Douglas, Laxey and Ramsey are the most likely to be affected, the Met Office said, according to Manx Radio. Manx Radio and Isle of Man Today both described a lesser risk of minor overtopping on Castletown promenade, although 3FM included Castletown among the worst-affected areas.

Further information is available from the Ronaldsway Met Office on 01624 821641.
