A 23-year-old Ramsey man has been fined £400 and had four points put on his licence for using a mobile phone while driving a van between Laxey and Baldrine.
Benjamin Charles Grainger admitted the offence by post, according to Isle of Man Today.
The court heard he was at the wheel of a Transit van on the A2 main road on 5 June when police officers travelling the other way saw him using his phone and pulled him over.
Grainger was given a fixed penalty notice at the time. He did not pay it and instead returned a form requesting a court hearing, the court was told.
In a written statement to the court, Grainger explained that he had swiped his phone to put music on and was unaware that doing so broke the law.
The court also ordered him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs on top of the fine, and allowed him two months to settle.
